2018 FIDE Candidates Tournament Round 7 Chess Betting Odds

–Chess is a surprisingly popular game among bettors–particularly in Europe.

–Magnus Carlsen is the reigning World Champion, a title he’s held since 2013.

–The seventh round of the FIDE Candidates Tournament to select the next World Championship challenger will take place on Sunday, March 18

We’ve reached the midway point of the 2018 FIDE Candidates Tournament. Saturday we’ll be a rest day and the eight competitors will be back at it on Sunday. Fabiano Caruana and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov are tied for the lead with four points each. Three players are deadlocked at 3 points and while there’s still time for the lower tiers of the standings to get into contention it will be exceedingly tough. It’s been an especially disappointing tournament for Levon Aronian who entered as the pre-tourney betting favorite. He’s currently in 7th place with 3.5 points. He’s got a huge opportunity on Sunday as he’ll face Fabiano Caruana, one of the current leaders. It’s pretty much a ‘must win’ for Aronian if he’s to have any chance of being in the mix for the right to take on Magnus Carlsen for the World Championship this Fall.
