‘American Idol’ Season 16 Finals Week 2 Betting Odds
–This is the 16th season for the long running reality show.
–’American Idol’ was on Fox for the first 15 seasons, this is the show’s first season on ABC.
–’American Idol’ Season 16 Finals Week 2 airs on Sunday, April 29 at 8:00 PM Eastern/5 PM Pacific. Results will be announced on Monday, April 30.
Last week in my ‘American Idol’ Top 14 writeup I suggested that the show was a cinch to be renewed for another season. That’s probably still the case though there are a few signs of potential trouble. The Sunday, April 15 episode put up an all time low rating number though it did rebound this week. Another potential issue–there were at least a few critics that weren’t impressed with *any* of the contestants. A month ago the perpetually miserable crew at The Atlantic called the show ‘eerily upbeat’ though since the magazine exists in a world where the lives of every individual should have stopped on a dime following Hillary Clinton’s electoral defeat in 2016 that’s not really a big deal. As far as I can recollect, the show has always been ‘eerily upbeat’–at least it would seem that way to someone who was of the opinion that the sky is falling because their preferred political party didn’t win the presidency.
We’ll recap some of the bigger stories this season. Oddly enough, the biggest ‘news’ this season has been two Katy Perry ‘wardrobe malfunctions’. If you’re thinking there was any bare ass on TV you don’t know this show. Both times, Perry’s backside was tastefully covered with the ‘American Idol’ logo. The multiple Katy Perry exposures did give me an excuse to come up with a few prop bets dealing with the fracas. We’ve got several proposition wagers that reference the Perry wardrobe mishaps.
As to the numeration of the episodes–Technically this *isn’t* Season 16 of ‘American Idol’ but Season 1 of the ‘Idol’ revival on ABC. That notwithstanding, I’m going to refer to it as ‘Season 16’. The next dilemma is how to refer to the episodes numerically–this writeup technically covers Episodes 15 and 16 but since we just picked up coverage with the Final 14 and are now into the Final 10 we’ll go with ‘Finals Week 2’. We’ll continue to update every week until a Season 16 winner is crowned.
One interesting note about the show–the Sunday show for the next three weeks will be airing live coast to coast so it’ll start at 8:00 PM Eastern and 5:00 PM Pacific. This is supposedly the first time in the history of American television that this has been done for a reality TV show.
