‘Big Brother’ Season 19 Week 11 Betting Odds

–CBS has renewed the long running ‘Big Brother’ reality show for a 19th and 20th season.

–’Big Brother’ is a spin-off of a Dutch TV series of the same name.

–’Big Brother’ airs Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday on CBS TV.

Matthew Clines became the latest contestant eliminated from Season 19 of ‘Big Brother’ when he got the boot on last Thursday’s live elimination show. His departure was a bit of a surprise based on the SPORTS BETTING EXPERTS odds. Clines was the #2 choice to win the entire competition, priced at +350 right behind favorite Paul Abrahamian (+250). This Thursday’s live elimination show will see *two* contestants get their walking papers as the Season 19 competition heads into the stretch run.

Depending on who you talk to, this has been one of the most entertaining seasons of ‘Big Brother’ or alternately a disgrace to the..uh…’good name’ of the reality show genre. The New York Daily News posted a somewhat ridiculous ‘man on the street’ story this past weekend about how fans are ‘disgusted’ with the Season 19 cast and don’t think anyone should win the $500 grand top prize. Well, it’s that’s not *really* a serious suggestion–here’s the ‘moneyshot’ from the article:

Several people have suggested not paying any of the house guests and instead donating the money to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The story also detailed examples of admittedly contemptible behavior from several contestants. Here’s the ‘reality check’–contemptible behavior is good for ratings. Besides, people who worry about the ‘ethics’ and ‘moral examples’ set by reality show contestants are likely the same type of people who would get up in arms about the quality of officiating in pro wrestling. When you don’t understand why people watch the circus you become one of the clowns.

An equally ridiculous story concerned a group of ‘Big Brother veterans’ who ‘blasted’ the current group of contestants for their poor gameplay. Alas, this story repeats the ridiculous trope that there’s an uprising among the Big Brother cognoscenti:

Many longtime Big Brother superfans have said that no one from the current cast deserves the show’s $500,000 grand prize, and some have called for CBS to donate the money to victims of Hurricane Harvey instead of giving it to the undeserving Big Brother 19 houseguests.

The story was largely the same narrative as the New York Post article, griping about the self absorbed and repugnant behavior from the cast. To the extent that there’s any significance to any of this it once again misses the point–CBS *wants* people to hate the ‘Big Brother’ cast members much in the same way that the WWE *wants* people to ‘hate’ their ‘bad guy’ heel wrestlers. A house full of likable people replete with redeeming qualities would be brutally boring and a ratings disaster. If anyone is concerned about the level of game play and/or the overall character of ‘Big Brother’ contestants it doesn’t bode well for the future of network TV and their lowest common denominator programming.

RATINGS UPS AND DOWNS

The “Big Brother’ ratings were fairly solid last week–at least for the Sunday and Wednesday shows. Sunday did a 1.8 rating with a 7 share and attracted 6.28 million viewers. Wednesday did a 1.8/7 with 6.20 million viewers. Thursday’s numbers were awful though there was a reason for that. Thursday did a 1.5 rating with a 6 share and only 4.91 million viewers. They were up against college football on cable and suffered from a number of CBS affiliates pre-empting the show for preseason NFL football. Sunday and Wendesday’s shows were #2 in both timeslot and for the night–Sunday’s ratings winner was NFL Preseason Football with Wednesday going to NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ juggernaut.

In any case, here’s the latest odds update for Season 19:
