‘Big Brother’ Season 20 Betting Odds Episode 20
–The long running ‘Big Brother’ reality show is back for a 20th season.
–’Big Brother’ is a spin-off of a Dutch TV series of the same name.
–Episode 20 of ‘Big Brother’ Season 20 airs Thursday, August 9 on CBS TV.
Rachel Swindler was eliminated on last week’s live ‘Big Brother’ episode which reduces the houseguest roster to 11. I didn’t expect much out of Swindler going forward–she was a +2500 longshot to emerge as the Season 20 winner–but I didn’t see her as being immediately at risk and was priced at +1500 on the ‘next to be eliminated’ board.
At the other end of the spectrum, Season 20 favorite Tyler Crispen continued to consolidate his position and has moved into ‘chalk’ territory for the first time this season. Crispen is now a -150 choice to claim ‘Big Brother’ supremacy. It’s essentially him and everyone else at this point. Sam Bledsoe is a +400 second choice to win Season 20 and no one else is priced at single digits. Brett Robinson and Kaycee Clark are at +1000 making them a distant third favorite in the current ‘To Win’ betting market.
This is a good time to point out another time tested reality show handicapping concept. It’s a corollary of the ‘Buitendorp Concept’ that stipulates that ‘just because everyone hates a contestant doesn’t mean they’ll be the next to be eliminated’. We’ll call this the ‘Paul Abrahamian Concept’ based on the presumptive favorite for most of ‘Big Brother’ Season 19. Abrahamian entered the finale as a -350 chalk to win Season 19 but didn’t seal the deal. The concept of a prohibitive favorite in a reality show–particularly one without a talent component–is a highly dubious one in my estimation. Also worth noting that the Season 19 winner, Josh Martinez, was among the longshots to win in the first half of the year. Paul Abrahamian did managed to hold on to the ‘Runner-up’ position–interestingly, he was also the ‘runner up’ in Season 18 making him sort of a Jim Kelly of ‘Big Brother’ and the only two time second place finisher in series history.
