‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 25 Episode 5 Betting Odds

–This is the 25th season for ABC’s reality show.

–NFL running back Rashad Jennings was the Season 24 winner.

–’Dancing With The Stars’ Episode 5 will air on October 9, 2017.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ had the thankless task of being the first live entertainment show to go on the air following the senseless and barbaric massacre in Las Vegas on late Sunday night. Props for them for handling the situation well, balancing the tough scheduling spot they were dealt with the need for the ‘show to go on’. The show did make the decision that there would be no elimination on Monday night which is probably a good idea.

As a longtime resident of Las Vegas the murder of 50+ people at the outdoor concert space across from the Mandalay Bay is almost too much to process. To be honest, I’m surprised that something of this nature hasn’t happened before. Even so, the level of the carnage is difficult to even comprehend. In the aftermath of the shooting it was sickening to watch the political class of the United States try to use the murderous rampage to push their respective agendas. The Right quickly tried to pin it on whatever ‘Islamic terror group’ Americans are supposed to be terrified of this week but to their credit Las Vegas law enforcement quickly and decisively dispelled that narrative. The Left, of course, trips all over themselves to push their agenda of disarming American citizens whenever there’s an act of violence. I can’t wrap my head around why they want the people to be defenseless before the government but that’s the ultimate motive.

Fortunately, the influence of political vermin of all ideologies is on the wane here in the US and worldwide. This will only accelerate in the coming years as civilization becomes more and more decentralized. The reality is that for whatever reason the United States has a sick fascination to the point of obsession with death, war and violence. The government has done everything they can to exploit this obsession which is why the United States is always at war or threatening war (that and to prop up the dinosaur that is the ‘Military/Industrial Complex’). As we’ve seen over 16 years of Bush and Obama (and now almost one year of Trump) one of the few things that Democrats and Republicans agree on is using the farcical ‘war on terror’ to kill millions around the world and gain more control over their citizens. Drones don’t fire themselves, after all. In a culture so in love with death and killing details like gun law minutiae is of no relevance. The United States and its people love to maim, injure and kill–the weapon they use doesn’t matter with that sort of pathological mindset.

Anyway, credit to ‘DWTS’ for handling the situation with significantly more class than the subhumans who infest government and politics along with their media co-conspirators. For a show with no elimination quite a bit happened to change the ‘balance of power’ among the contestants:

EPISODE FOUR CONTESTANT REPORT CARD

Here’s a look at each dancer’s performance in the previous episode including an update on the competitive dynamic and what it means for the betting odds.

VICTORIA ARLEN: Victoria Arlen is a force of nature. Another week, another solid score (22). She’s now got the fifth highest average score on the season (21.3) but the problem is that the ‘lead pack’ of Jordan Fisher, Lindsey Stirling and Vanessa Lachey are starting to pull away from the rest of the field. Frankie Muniz is currently in fourth place but he may have ‘peaked’ too soon. Arlen did motivate a great bit by Tom Bergeron after she revealed that she was bullied in high school:

“I was bullied in high school,” she recalled. “I would go through hallways and kids pointed at me. I was the new kid in the wheelchair. I would listen to this song (‘Tubthumping’ by Chumbawamba) and it motivated me.”

After her performance Bergeron got a huge round applause with this:

“If I could just address kids watching,” Bergeron looked to the camera. “If you’re going to school and you see somebody who’s different, don’t be an ass.”

Couldn’t have said it better. Arlen will be around for awhile and the show is better for it.

NIKKI BELLA: Another good but not great dance by the future Mrs. John Cena. Bella finished with 21 points putting her in a five way tie for the second lowest score.

DEREK FISHER: Fisher got a 21 which is his highest score on the season. On the other hand, he may have benefited from a very charitable vibe in the room due to the horrific events in Las Vegas less than 24 hours before. He’s got a 19.3 average score which puts him in a tie with Nick Lachey for second lowest among the remaining contestants. He might hang on for a few more weeks but this is likely as good as he’ll get.

JORDAN FISHER: Nothing wrong with J-Fish’s performance or his second highest score of 25 but as we observed last week he might have reached the height of his ability. In the past, contestants with functional ‘real world’ dancing experience have often started strong but quickly reached the apex of their potential. Meanwhile, contestants that bumbled through the first few dances start improving by leaps and bounds (eg: David Ross last year). He does have the highest average score (23.8) but his advantage over Lindsey Stirling is down to 0.3 points.

NICK LACHEY: Nick needed a big performance but instead turned in a mediocre one. He finished with a 21 and part of the five way tie for next to last. Still think he’ll be the next one out.

VANESSA LACHEY: Vanessa scored a 23, same as last week. See my previous observation about Jordan Fisher hitting the peak of his abilities. A bigger issue might be a ‘chemistry issue’ with her partner Maks Chmerkovskiy. The ‘party line’ is that Chmerkovsiy is dealing with a ‘personal issue’ and sitting this week out. Alan Bersten, who had been Debbie Gibson’s partner prior to her elimination last week, took his place. There are murmurs of a ‘feud’ between dancer and contestant:

“There’s a big chemistry issue,” the insider says. “They both have big personalities and that’s not always the best recipe for a good partnership.”

It’ll be interesting to see what happens from here. It sure doesn’t bode well for the distaff Lachey getting the continued improvement she’ll need to win.

FRANKIE MUNIZ: After Frankie Muniz turned in two strong performances last week he ‘regressed to the mean’ finishing in the big pack with a 21 score.

TERRELL OWENS: Like we noted last week, T.O. is starting to round into form. He was part of the big five way tie for ‘next to last’ but his 21 is his best score of the year. If he can keep improving he might pull into contention for a strong finish, if not the win.

SASHA PIETERSE: Sasha Pieterse turned in the worst score of the episode and her second lowest of the year (19). She’s dropped to a tie for the 6th ranked average score and she could go either way from here.

DREW SCOTT: Drew Scott might have pulled himself out of the bottom three with a solid performance and a heartfelt shoutout to his home town of Las Vegas. He’s now tied with Sasha Pieterse for the sixth highest average. Finished with a final score of 23–his highest of the year. Scott is solidly mid-pack now but could be this year’s David Ross if the improvement continues.

LINDSEY STIRLING: Stirling became the sole favorite to win Season 25 with another strong performance. She earned 9’s across the board for a 27 score which is not only *her* highest score of the year but the highest score earned by any contestant (previous high was 25 by Jordan Fisher and Frankie Muniz). As the other top contestants look content just to maintain their form Stirling keeps getting better. Don’t be surprised if she nails the first ’10’ of the season in the next couple of weeks.
