NFL Football Betting: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Detroit Lions

Sunday morning football here–and we *mean* Sunday morning since this game will start at 9:30 Eastern which means it’ll start on the West Coast at the barbaric hour of 6:30 AM. Not really anything worth getting up for as the 1-6 Detroit Lions play the 2-5 Kansas City Chiefs. There’s no ATS salvation in these records–the Lions are 1-6 ATS, the Chiefs are 2-5 against the spread. Two bad teams playing at London’s Wembley Stadium for the amusement of a country just now warming to American football. Hopefully, this putrid display won’t turn them off.

In all honesty, not much to work with in this game. Both teams are spectacularly disappointing in different ways. At least the Chiefs have an injury to starting running back Jamaal Charles that is partly at fault for their struggles. Andy Reid is the king of using an injured player as a scapegoat so this injury will likely allow him to keep his job for another season. And the Chiefs are actually off a win over Pittsburgh. That means they won/covered the first week of the season, lost the next five both straight up and against the spread and won and covered their last game. Charcandric West played pretty well in Charles’ stead last week. Depending on what condition the notoriously balky Wembley turf is in this week he might do so again. The Chiefs should also get Jeremy Maclin back for this game.

The Lions are just a mess. Detroit is dead last in rushing yardage and have failed to cover in 7 of their last 9 away games. They’re also on a 4-10 ATS run as an underdog. In theory, this is a matchup where you should hold your nose and take the underdog but I’m not so sure that these teams are ‘equally bad’. I at least sense some signs of life and professional pride with Kansas City. Not sure what is keeping the Lions going. The weather in London this week has been sunny and mild and will remain so through game day. That leads us to believe that the turf should be in decent shape and if that’s the case the superior running game of the Chiefs should rule the day.
