‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Updated Proposition Betting Odds

–’Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ will be the 9th release in the long running franchise

–The last Star Wars film–‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’–was a box office monster.

–’Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ is set to be released on December 15, 2017.

We’re getting into the ‘holiday season’ and this is the time of year when movie studios often release their biggest of the big ‘blockbuster films’. The nature of the film industry has changed dramatically in the digital era but this fact hasn’t–yet. There’s no bigger blockbuster in the pipeline than the next entry in the long running and ridiculously lucrative ‘Star Wars’ franchise. The next *official* film in the iconic franchise will be released on December 15. For producers Buena Vista aka Disney, they’re hoping that ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ recaptures some of the magic and fan excitement that was missing in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’.

It’s not that ‘Rogue One’ wasn’t a hit–it has pulled in well over a half billion dollars in domestic box office receipts after all. It just didn’t quite have the buzz that producers were anticipating. For one thing, the opening weekend didn’t dominate as had been hoped. ‘Rogue One’ had a strong opening but it was for all intents and purposes tied with ‘Deadpool’ for the best of the year when expectations had been for a rout. In all fairness, it wasn’t technically part of the long running Star Wars cannon but instead a new storyline meaning it’s already a new ‘cash cow’ for a franchise that doesn’t need one.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ has no such excuses. If it doesn’t challenge it’s predecessor ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ for all time box office supremacy worldwide it’ll have to be considered a disappointment. It’s already got a tough challenger for biggest opening weekend of 2017 as the latest installment in the ‘Fast and the Furious’ franchise has set the bar very high. ‘The Fate of the Furious’ did a decent domestic opening of 98.78 million but it brought in a record $433.2 million from 63 international markets for a record $532 million global opening weekend. That $532 million opening broke the record of $529 held by ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.

We’ll revisit the ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ proposition odds in the next few weeks but we’ll start with a few prop bets related to the storyline of the film itself as well as the usual box office revenue wagers. Next up, we’ll have some prop bets related to the film’s critical reception:
